Yellowstone's End Fulfills 1883 Prophecy At the end of Yellowstone season 5, episode 13, Kayce proposes to sell the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch to Chief Thomas Rainwater and his tribe for $1.25 per acre, the Duttons' ancestral price.
It's cheap, and that's the point. Kayce and Beth must sell the land because they and the Broken Rock Reservation can't afford the inheritance tax. If Chief Rainwater buys it cheaply, the tax will be based on his purchase price.
Chief Rainwater jumps at the chance to buy the ranch after the tax cut. The Duttons are sad to leave the ranch (but Kayce isn't), but Chief Rainwater and his people will take care of it.
The land won't be bought by wealthy corporations for shopping centers, resorts, etc. Kayce ensures his family can keep their East Camp home as part of the deal.
Spotted Eagle said, "In seven generations my people will rise up and take it back from you," and the Yellowstone season 5 finale does just that.
The sale completes Yellowstone's story. Spotted Eagle prophesied to James Dutton that his people would reclaim the land at the end of 1883. Spotted Eagle said, "In seven generations my people will rise up and take it back from you," and the Yellowstone season 5 finale does just that.
