winner of the fifth-largest jackpot in Mega Millions history comes forward to claim the $1.1 billion prize nine months later.

Lottery officials said the winner, who has decided to remain nameless, will earn $537.5 million before state and federal taxes.

The winner of Mega Millions' fifth-largest jackpot has stepped forward to claim their winnings.

According to a news release from the New Jersey Lottery, the $1.128 billion jackpot was won nine months ago on a ticket purchased at a ShopRite in Neptune Township.

According to lottery officials, the ticket purchased on March 26 matched the winning numbers 07, 11, 22, 29, and 38, as well as the Gold Mega Ball number 04 and the multiplier number 02.

The winner, who has chosen to remain anonymous, will be awarded $537.5 million in cash before state and federal taxes, according to the announcement.

Meanwhile, the ShopRite that sold the winning ticket received a $30,000 additional commission on the transaction.

"I am very proud to accept this commission check," Saker remarked in March. "This contribution will be delivered straight to Fulfill, the local food bank located just up the street from Monmouth and Ocean County. I'm confident that the food bank will much appreciate this donation."

Lottery winners in New Jersey have "one year from the date of the drawing to file a claim" for their prize money, according to a release from the New Jersey Lottery.

The largest Mega Millions jackpot ever won was $1.602 billion by a Florida player in August 2023, according to lottery authorities.
