The Golden Retriever 'Swims in His Dreams' with a genuinely joyful smile

Most Golden Retrievers love swimming. They're natural swimmers after decades of waterfowl retrieving. They even like baths—any excuse to get wet.

Even in dreams, they swim! One Golden Retriever dreamed of swimming at the Olympics. Michael Phelps may be worried about his spot.

Buddy is a wonderful boy, and mom hasn't posted anything about him on TikTok till now, but we know everything. Buddy is cute, loves swimming, and will throw as many tantrums as needed to get in a pool.

He looks like he's swimming, but we don't know. We know swimming is terrific exercise, and he gets regular pool access, so he can swim all he wants. With such face, it must be hard to refuse him. He probably knows and utilizes it to his advantage!

Really, dogs dream about what? While a dog's dreams are unknown, there are indications. Buddy's paw movements in this video suggest he's running or swimming.

Most effective dream studies have been done on rats in a lab. After forcing rats to do anything, scientists observed their brain activity. Then, they monitored their brain during REM sleep. Very similar!

That suggested that many animals, including dogs, dream about daily activities like catching balls, barking at the mailman, or going for walks. Like people, dogs may have "nightmares," causing twitching, yipping, or unusual behavior when they wake.
