Paige Spiranac and Lexi Thompson suspected of scam: It's not me!

Lexi Thompson of the LPGA publicly identified her social media account to avoid the same fraud that affected Paige Spiranac.

The 29-year-old, who finished ninth in the 2024 Women's PGA Championship, killed any phony accounts in her name as scammers utilize her beauty and notoriety to trick consumers into giving them money or personal information.

This fraud sometimes involves creating an account in the name of a famous person or sexually attractive woman and posing as them to deceive people.

This is often done by linking to a bogus OnlyFans account that promises unique material if someone subscribes or pays once.

They may also phish for personal and financial information or offer meet-and-greet/merchandise competitions to unwary victims.

Thompson was targeted again, and she's had enough. She clears the air about which social media accounts she uses. "Just another reminder here," Thompson Instagrammed. I exclusively use this social media page.

Can I recognize a scam? Spiranac, a model who uses her sex appeal to promote herself and golf, called out the fraudsters in August for utilizing this information.

Charley Hull followed suit, listing followers who were duped into paying for a meet-and-greet she didn't offer. Internet tip: If it appears too good to be true, it probably is.

Other ways to be responsible include checking the accounts' creation dates, follower counts, external links to third-party websites, and copied images/videos from official accounts.
