Yellowstone EP Reveals Finale Secrets

Five seasons of the massively popular Western series "Yellowstone." have been long, dusty, and bloody for the Dutton family. Several shocking deaths occurred in the final episodes, including a horse-related one.

Despite the bloodshed, this chaotic and influential Montana family found closure. Christina Alexandra Voros, "Yellowstone" executive producer, explained the dramatic finale for Variety.

Taylor and I never discussed the end before Kevin's departure. Members of the cast have talked about conversations they had with him early on (Season 1) where they got the sense that he has always known that the patriarch must die and pass on the legacy.

That information is almost secondhand for me. I know it changed the "how" if not the "what," but I can't describe it.

The limitations Taylor faced after Kevin left really brought out a side of his writing that people have mixed feelings about: Flashbacks and season structure.

I thought it added a layer to see how he struggled to tell this story without the subject. It inspired some intriguing creative choices. Limitations can be good for art because they force you to think creatively in ways you might not have planned.

Although Taylor is a great writer and director, I think I've learned more from him as a general and businessman than as an artist. From directing "Yellowstone" with Kevin Costner as the lead to having seven shows on the air and being one of the most talked-about names in television, you see his journey.

That comes from his storytelling and writing prowess. His ability to change game rules causes it. Show me someone 20 years ago who could live in Texas and run six TV series from there because he hates L.A. and chose a prolific, self-directed life.
