A Geminid meteor shower was seen illuminating England's night skies.

Beautiful displays of the Geminid meteor shower, which illuminated the night sky in parts of England, were captured by photographers.

Early on Saturday morning, people were able to see the celestial display, which is one of the year's final major meteor showers and returns every December.

Astute night sky photographers saw the meteor shower in areas of Northumberland and as far south as Somerset. White light streaks can be seen moving across the night sky in the eye-catching images.

In order to get a glimpse of the shower, Lee Reid, a passionate photographer who lives close to Newcastle, drove an hour to Lindisfarne in Northumberland and found a clear patch of sky.

Mr. Reid, 43, told the PA news agency, "I was getting, obviously, quite excited because I could actually see the meteors on drive up."

It appears that Indisfarne is my lucky location. Although there were clouds behind me, most of the sky was clear at around 5:30 a.m. in the northeast.

"It's fantastic because when you're organizing your plans for a few days and hoping for clear skies, it's nice when a plan works out."

Mr. Reid, an IT service delivery manager, claimed that he became interested in photography as a hobby after witnessing natural phenomena in the night sky.

He claimed to have purchased his first camera after traveling to Iceland with photographer Will Cheung, a fellow of the Royal Photographic Society, to photograph the Northern Lights.
