Travis Kelce, a tight end with the Kansas City Chiefs, has cemented his reputation as one of the most successful and dominant players in NFL history at his position. However, he is also accustomed to receiving penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct, as he did only last month.
Tony Gonzalez's long-standing touchdown catch record was broken by Kelce during the Chiefs' Christmas Day game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, cementing his place in the team's record books. But there were some unanticipated repercussions from his joyous behavior.
Kelce received a penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct after celebrating the historic score by slamming the ball over the crossbar.
Pelissero said on X, the website that was once known as Twitter, that "the NFL fined #Chiefs TE Travis Kelce $14,069 for unsportsmanlike conduct (use of prop) — dunking over the crossbar on Christmas in tribute to Tony Gonzalez after breaking his franchise TD record."
Pelissero continued, "Gonzalez posted he'll help with the fine." Kelce now turns his attention to the postseason, where the Chiefs are attempting to make history, after capturing the No. 1 overall seed.
Everyone will be watching to see if Kelce and his teammates can pull it off as Kansas City attempts to win the Super Bowl for an unprecedented third time in a row. We will have to wait to find out if they are successful.
