East Coast residents should prepare for an early-year Arctic air blow. Fox Weather predicts temperatures might drop 30 degrees below average in various parts of the U.S.
The publication adds that two high pressure zones will drive bitter cold air south of Canada into the Eastern US. According to the outlet, temperatures will drop east of the Rocky Mountains and snow chances will rise in the Northeast and Great Lakes.
"We're talking about a big, big cool down, to say the least, especially for the East Coast in the first few weeks of January," said Kendall Smith of FOX Weather. Starting Wednesday, the artic outbreak will last the first week of the year.
According to the outlet, temperatures in the northern Plains and eastern U.S. would drop 20 to 30 degrees by midweek from Monday. Florida might endure overnight freezing temperatures, with Jacksonville and Tallahassee lows around 30 degrees.
The National Weather Service in upstate New York is tracking another lake-effect snow event starting Wednesday and perhaps lasting into the weekend. The weather system follows harsh winter storms that disrupted travel over Christmas.
After a days-long cold blast, Forbes predicted mid-Atlantic temperatures to surge above freezing. The National Weather Service reported thunderstorms and rainfall over one inch across eastern Texas, Arkansas, and southern Missouri from Christmas Eve through Wednesday morning.
