After not skipping Colorado's Alamo Bowl, Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter's college careers ended in a 36-14 loss to BYU.
The Buffaloes flew on a special jet to San Antonio's Alamodome to play the No.17 Cougars. After going 9-3, Deion Sanders' squad was rated 23rd and missed the expanded College Football Playoffs.
Many believed quarterback Shedeur Sanders and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter should sit out the season finale due to their NFL Draft ambitions. Colorado purchased unusual insurance before the Alamo Bowl to safeguard both during their conference declaration.
Sanders and Hunter were denied a fairytale farewell despite their desire to play one more game with their comrades. Instead of saying goodbye in a 52-0 win over Oklahoma State in their final home game at Folsom Field on November 29, they lost.
Colorado started flat in Texas, behind 20-0 at halftime and 27-0 shortly after. The Buffaloes scored in the third quarter when Hunter took a short pass from Sanders and juked into the endzone.
Despite Hunter's impressive final college game, it was a forgettable evening. Hunter had 106 yards on four receptions and played defense while Sanders had 208 passing yards on 16/23 with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Hunter said why he didn't skip the bowl game: "I started this with Coach Prime, Shedeur, and most of the coaches. I want to finish well.
"I wasn't able to finish my first year at Jackson State due to injuries, but I'll finish strong. Our last game together. My dedication to them will be shown as we dominate."
Head coach Deion Sanders was emotional before the game discussing his last game teaching Hunter, Shedeur, and Shilo.
"The journey," Sanders remarked. A voyage. Great, turbulent adventure. Sorry, this is hard. This is hard."
"I’m seeing when they first put on uniforms," Sanders said. "When they started. When I started coaching them. Good, awful, indifference. Ups and downs.
"The adventure has been amazing. I appreciate it. I thank God. I must organize. I must coach and organize."
